The Shared Table and Quiz Evening.

A shared table and quiz evening was held in the Church Rooms on Leap Year Day - 29th February 2008.

The evening was ably organised by Phil Walling. The idea was that everybody came with some food which was placed on a table to share. Some provided tasty starters whilst others brought delicious main courses or tempting puddings and yet others unselfishly supplied a spicy soup although they were away sunning themselves in Portugal under the pretext of work!

Approximately 30 parishioners aged between seven and seventy-seven (and a bit) took part in a most enjoyable and informal evening.

After a splendid repast everybody was invited to take part in a fun quiz commencing with topical questions on the facts and figures surrounding the origins of Leap Year. Other subjects included General Knowledge, Review of the Year 2007, TV Policemen, and Cats. The answers sparked some lively debate and the only rule that had any significance was that the Quiz Master’s (Michael Toone) decision was final!

The evening was an opportunity for villagers to get together socially. The noise level reinforced the general opinion that this event had been a great success.

Congratulations to Phil and all those who contributed for making this such an undoubted success. It is hoped this will lead to other enjoyable events on similar or different themes.

The social concept of the shared table is one that should bring the village closer together and it is down to those of us who were present to spread the word and encourage others to share a table.

However, we do need to do more to involve the youngsters of the village in this kind of event. Any ideas as how we achieve this would be welcomed.
