The purpose of the Parish Diary is to inform villagers of key decisions and actions taken by the Parish Meeting on behalf of the village. The diary is updated monthly and more information can be obtained from either the Chairman or Secretary.

24 October 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting AGM.

10 October 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raises strong objection to P08/2527/2 for Change of Use to store mezzanine flooring at Rectory Fields Nursery. (follow link above to read letter of objection.)

8 October 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raises objection to Planning Application by Wanlip Sand and Gravels for green waste and inert waste recycling facility. Objection based on environmental and traffic issues.(follow link above to read letter of objection.)

7 October 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting writes to CBC and TNEI Services Ltd regarding enquiry for wind turbine and application for wind monitoring equipment at STW. TNEI Services agreed to attend Parish Meeting on 25 October and provide an exhibition in Wanlip on 28 November.

3 September 2008 - Wanlip awarded Best Village (Population less than 500).

28 August 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raises no objection to P/08/2330/2 for sponsorship signs on A6 roundabout.

25 July 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raises observation against P/08/0981/2 regarding the potential loss of a footpath and questions relating to the preservation of the Ice House and Ice House Spinney when the Palmer-Tomkinson Centre is built at Longslade Community College. 5 Sep 08 - CBC responded stating that they would ask that the Ice House is restored as part of the scheme and request clarification from the developer regarding the footpath.

18 July 2008 - CBC confirms that enforcement action will be taken against Rectory Fields Nursery regarding use to store mezzanine flooring.

1 July 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting writes to Kinchbus to request additional/changes to bus services through Wanlip. Kinchbus responded on 1 September stating that Parish Meeting needed to approach Leicestershire County Council.

1 July 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting writes to Jelson Ltd seeking permission for English Heritage to access and survey Wanlip Park.

24 June 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raises no objection to P/08/1517/2 for extension to 53 Rectory Road.

16 June 2008 - Best Village judges visit Wanlip.

13 June 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting.

1 June 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting sends letter of thanks to Director of Highways for work carried out in Wanlip.

16 May 2008 - Wanlip enters Best Village Competition.

28 April 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raises several observations relating to P/08/0984/2 updated plans to convert 6 dwellings at Manor Farm. Observations primarily related to the traffic calming scheme. CBC approved planning application subject to Highways approving traffic calming scheme. Wanlip Parish Meeting, the developer and Highways to meet and agree a solution.

19 March 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raises no objection to P/08/0475/2 for extension to The Cottage, Wanlip Hill Farm.

14 March 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting writes to CBC formally agreeing street cleaning and maintenance schedule.

20 February 2008 - Wanlip receives Stepping Stones grant of £387.55 for tree planting project.

17 February 2008 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raises no objection to P/07/3435/2 for new poly tunnels at Rectory Field Nursery.

19 November 2007 - STW respond to letter dated 27 October inviting villagers to meet project engineers.

13 November 2007 – Wrote to Mr Trevor Wells selling agent for Manor Farm to request permission to photograph site and to request an update on plans for the site.

Request to photograph site was turned down on health and safety grounds. The vendor is currently discussing plans for the site with CBC and would like to present them to Wanlip Parish Meeting at a suitable time.

12 November 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting wrote to Mr Peter Greenhalgh of DCT Civil Engineering Ltd (a sub-contractor to Severn Trent Water) re outstanding issues following works in Butchers Lane.

11 November 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting raises no objection to Planning Application P/07/3219/2 for an extension at 9 Riverside Mews.

9 November 2007 – Grant of £300 agreed to fund a tree planting scheme for Rectory Road. Designs will be agreed by the Planning and Environment Working Group.

9 November 2007 – Grant of £450 agreed for the purchase of new chairs for the Church Hall.

9 November 2007 – Wanlip Wildlife and Ecology Policy and Plan formally adopted.

9 November 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting AGM. Alan Corner elected as Chairman; Dorothy Toone elected as Secretary. Ian Harrison retains position as Treasurer.

22 October 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting writes formally to LCC to object to the ‘piece-meal’ approach to planning at Severn Trent Water.

22 October 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting raises an objection to Planning Application P/07/2878/2 on the grounds of adverse visual impact at Severn Trent Water.

7 October 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting submits formal comments to CBC regarding Local Development Framework Alternative Strategies Proposal.

31 July 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting raises no objection to Planning Application P/07/2184/2 for an extension at 9 Riverside Mews.

27 July 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting submits formal comments to CBC regarding Local Area Forum Proposal.

13 March 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting raise no observations regarding the A46 freeway proposal. No impact on Wanlip village.

10 April 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting raises comment regarding Planning Application P/07/0887/02 at the Severn Trent Treatment Facility. Although works were minor, comment was made that a number of separate applications had been made for similar works and that any future applications should be considered with those previously granted and should be conditional on further reducing the visual impact through additional screening.

10 April 2007 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raises no objection to Planning Application P/07/05547/02 for a conservatory at 8 Riverside Mews.

28 February 2007 – Wanlip Parish Meeting raise no comments against a potential alternative (smaller) visitor centre at Watermead Country Park

25 January 2007 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raise no objection to Planning Application P/2006/3779/02 for minor works at Severn Trent Treatment Plant.

21 December 2006 – Graham Lander and Joy Norton attend Conservation Area Scrutiny Panel.

20 December 2006 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raise no objection to Planning Application P/06/3552/2 to retain security cameras at Bentley’s Roses.

20 December 2006 – Final comments specific to Wanlip on Draft East Midlands Regional Plan submitted.

15 December 2006 – Joint response to Draft East Midlands Regional Plan formally submitted.

1 December 2006 – Draft East Midlands Regional Plan. Wanlip agreed to engage in a consolidated response with Anstey and Syston at a cost of £50.

20 November 2006 – Philip Walling attended Rothley Planning Meeting to discuss development north of Birstall. No real decision about going forward. Wanlip has informed Rothley and Birstall that it will only engage in a structured and co-ordinated approach to the development.

18 November 2006 - Wanlip Parish Meeting raise no objection subject to no additional visual or environmental impact to Planning Application P/2006/3340/02 for works at Severn Trent Treatment Plant.

7 November 2006 – Public meeting held at the Rothley Centre to discuss potential commercial development north of Birstall.

3 August 2006 – Wanlip Parish Meeting raise objection to Planning Application P/06/1992/2 for dwelling in garden of 53 Rectory Road. Part of plan lies outside of Wanlip Limit of Development.

17 October 2006 Charnwood Borough Council’s Corporate Plan reviewed by Parish Meeting. Comments sent to Charnwood Borough Council.

14-15 October 2006 The Wildlife and Ecology Working Group organised a ‘village bulb planting weekend’ to plant nearly 10,000 spring daffodil bulbs throughout the village.

10 October 2006 Alan Corner formalised the date of a Public Meeting with Birstall and Rothley Parish Councils to discuss proposals for commercial development ‘north of Birstall’ – part of which lies within Wanlip Parish. Meeting is set for 7 November 7.30pm at Rothley Centre.

6 October 2006 The Community Working Group launched the ‘Parish Chest’ and ‘Parish Timeline’ projects. £100 granted from the Parish Meeting to support the projects.

6 October 2006 AGM of the Parish Meeting. Alan Corner and Dorothy Toone returned unopposed as Chairman and Secretary. Ian Harrison agreed to continue in the role of Treasurer. Parish Plan working groups presented progress reports to meeting.

3 August 2006 Alan Corner responded on behalf of the Parish Meeting to planning application P/06/1992/2 objecting on the basis that part of the development is outside of the ‘village envelope’ and is contrary to the wishes of the village as expressed in the Parish Plan. The planning application was subsequently withdrawn by the applicant.

3 July 2006 Philip Walling responded on behalf of the Parish Meeting to planning application P/06/1918/2 offering no objection. The planning application was subsequently approved.

21 June 2006 Alan Corner met with Charnwood Borough Council Planning Department to discuss planning applications relating to Wanlip. There were 3 ‘active’ applications:

P/02/3590/2 Conversion of farm buildings at Manor Farm to 6 dwellings – approved;

P/06/1918/2 Siting of mobile classrooms at Longslade Community College – pending;

P/06/1992/2 Erection of dwelling and garage at 53 Rectory Road – pending.

26 May 2006 Alan Corner met with Rev James Shakespeare. It was agreed that the village remains committed to retaining the Church Hall and that we will provide assistance where possible to ensure its future.

1 April 2006 Four working groups are formally established to deliver the recommendations set out in the Parish Plan. The working groups cover the areas of Community; Planning and Environment; Traffic and Transport and Wildlife and Ecology. Sarah Doyle agreed to act as Working Group Co-ordinator.

1 April 2006 Neil Thompson appointed by Charnwood Borough Council as ‘Wanlip Parish Meeting Partnership Manager’.

1 April 2006 Precept set at £1000 for the coming year.

1 April 2006 Alan Corner replaced Ian Harrison as Chairman of the Parish Meeting. Dorothy Toone was returned as Secretary unopposed. Ian Harrison assumes the role of Treasurer.
